LASH IN A FLASH (well 30 days at least...)
The latest Rimmel Challenge asked us to test out their newest mascara, Lash Accelerator, for thirty days. This was my favorite challenge thus far because now my lashes are HUGE!
Lash Accelerator magically grows lashes by 117% after just one month! This seems like complete blasphemy, but I'm here to confirm! It uses the GROW-LASH Complex (includes many ingredients such as CAFFEINE!) to help lashes grow longer and fuller. And boy does it! I've been using it for a little over a month and I've definitely noticed a difference.
I must admit I was a tad hesitant (I normally am about products that claim such glorious things), but I am completely blown away. And for such a low price! It should totally be illegal (but I'm sooo glad it's not!) My lashes are so much longer that I've found myself wearing less eye make-up because of it!
Check out this proof!

Challenge Number Three: Springtime! (part two)
The second part of the challenge is, as always, to create a new Rimmel look, this time, inspired by spring! The past week has been so unbelievably beautiful. That's the thing about the Northwest, although it's rainy and grey most of the time, when it's sunny and clear, it's unreal and one of the biggest treats ever. I've been taking advantage of the weather whenever I get dressed. Yesterday, I bought a part of denim overall shorts, which were too funny and cute to pass up (plus I've wanted a pair for a looong time)!
I also moved into an apartment with my friend John this week! It's very cute and right across from Tashkent Park. In fact, here's my friend (and new roommate!) John in the park, looking very London himself!
Anyway, I had a lot of fun with the springtime look! I especially liked the Color Rush Quad Eye Shadow palette in Urban Flower. It has one light pink shadow, one green, one pinky gold, and one dark brown, which completely screams spring to me! Along with the Color Rush palette, I also used the Moisture Renew lipstick in Rose Blush, the Lasting Finish blush in Pink Rose, Royal Gloss in Twinkle Pink, the Fix and Perfect Primer, and the Volume Flash mascara. The headband is from Topshop!

Challenge Number Three: Springtime! (part one)
Springtime in London and springtime in Seattle are very similar, so this next challenge is perfect! The challenge called for going out and finding the "London Look" in Seattle. When I think of the "London Look", I think of edginess, individuality, and originality. There are many places in Seattle that possess just that, but here are a few:
1. Cairo
Cairo is one of my favorite thrift shops in Seattle. Not only do they have an amazing collection of clothes (ranging from dresses to funky sweatshirts to awesome shoes) but it also doubles as a music venue that showcases Seattle bands. It's very small and quaint but is still super edgy and like nowhere I've ever been before!
2. Sonic Boom Records
Sonic Boom records is one of those records stores that you could spend hours in perusing through all the cd's and vinyls. Everyone who works there is super nice, and the setup is an art in itself!
3. Spine and Crown Books
Spine and Crown books sure is a find! It's on a main street in Seattle, but you could certainly pass by it without noticing (I did for the first six months I lived here). With this being said, it's not something that should be missed. It's a pretty small store that has piles and piles of books from playwrights, to comics, to classic novels. I feel like this store could definitely be on a side street in London where one could sit and have a cup of tea and get lost in books all day.

le red carpet look
It's time for the Rimmel10 challenge number two! For the first challenge, we had to wipe the slate clean and go about our everyday lives without make-up, and then create our own everyday Rimmel look. Now, as Rimmel quotes "we want you to go in the complete opposite direction" with a red carpet look! For this look, we had to build a look around the amazing (seriously, amazing) Max Volume Flash mascara, which I have in Extreme Black. I decided to go all out and create a super bold look. Although I love the red carpet glamour look, I took a different approach and did a more fun, creative look. For my eyes, I used of course the Max Volume Flash mascara, the Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black on my lower lids, Glam'Eyes Mono Eye Shadow in Celestial Sapphire and then I used Natural Bronzer in Sun Light and Moisture Renew lipstick in Dreamy for the rest of my face.
I was a little scared with the blue eyeshadow at first because in the past when I've used blue eyeshadow it was either too purple or too green and no matter how many coats of it I put on, it never got the blue I was hoping for, so I'd only use a blue eyeliner. Glam'Eyes achieves what an eyeliner can and more! I applied it like an eyeliner because it comes with a double sided brush, and the smaller side worked great to get a smooth application. And the color is so electric blue! I really really like it and I'll definitely be using it for more nights out.
The Max Volume Flash mascara leaves me speechless. But, I mean, of course I'm going to talk about it. It has collagen and keratin in the formula, providing the thickest, most glam lashes I've ever had. Just a couple coats of this baby and I was instantly taken aback! I also like how it doesn't clump and stays on my lashes all day (or night).
Because I had an intense eye get-up, I chose to have a softer lip, and thus I used the Moisture Renew lipstick in Dreamy. It's a very nice pinky beige color with a little bit of shimmer to glam things up. I'm already familiar with the Moisture Renew lipstick, so it wasn't a surprise when it glided on my lips and didn't get cakey or anything! And I looove the color and is great for everyday when you need just a little more. And the Rimmel Natural Bronzer has been a favorite of mine since day one to warm up the skin just enough to give me a healthy looking glow.
This challenge was super fun and although I created a more casual look, I still felt glamourous and ready for the red carpet! Well, maybe more of a Grammy's type red carpet than the Academy Awards but either way...

Ten Trends in Two Thousand and Ten
Rimmel has given each of us Rimmel 10 girls a mini challenge! In this challenge, we were asked to hypothesize 10 trends for 2010. I based my answers on some Spring 2010 runway show looks that I think will blossom and random trends that came to mind, because you really never know what could turn into a trend.
So here it goes:
1. Draped dresses. These have already been introduced for a little while, but I think they will become way more popular. I think they look super classy and sexy, and can work for any body type. I also think they're great for going all out with hair, make-up, accessories and shoes because in the end, they're pretty simple dresses, but structurally exciting at the same time. Also, any type of fabric can be used, which is very versatile for one's skin tone and body type.
2. Denim Overall Shorts
I don't know, I've just always thought they were really cute and I've been looking for a pair myself!
3. Tutus/ Tulle
I think tutus could definitely be a trend in the near future. They're so fun and girly, and great to match with boyish and edgier pieces.
4. Crimped hair
Yes, crimped hair, but not as intense as it was in the 80's. More like a softer brushed out crimped hair. Just crazy and wavy and fun.
5. African inspired prints
In the Spring 2010 Marc by Marc Jacobs show, he used a lot of traditional bright African feeling prints and I thought it looked great. I hope this becomes a trend, and even if it doesn't I will surely try to scope some of these out!
6. Khaki/ Neutral toned clothing
Also inspired by the runway, Chloe used a very neutral color palette with simple cut pieces, but it's extremely successful. Normally if I wear something plain I like to have at least one thing that pops, but everything goes together nicely and works really well and I'm interested to see what happens with this.
7. Native American inspired prints
Along with African inspired prints, I think Native American inspired prints will be taking over soon enough. Pendleton, an old pacific northwestern brand recently teamed up with Opening Ceremony and took the old Pendleton prints and styles and added a modern twist.
8. Peter Pan collars
These are so cute. I am also on the lookout for a shirt like this! It's very school girl uniform and I can also see this being paired with edgier items (ripped denim shorts, perhaps?)
9. Turbans
So, I'm not giving up on these guys. Ever since Prada brought turbans on the runway in 2007, I have been obsessed. I also happen to own two cashmere turbans made by my mom's friend, Armand Diradouraian who has AMAZING sample sales in New York. Anyway, turbans, I'm really into them. Turban headbands got more street cred than actual turbans did a few years ago, but I think the turban should be brought back.
10. Chinese calligraphy
This one is another stretch, but hey, as I said before, you really never know with trends. My friend recently bought a dress with a subtle chinese calligraphy pattern on it from a sample sale in Seattle and I got a shirt with the same pattern, but I unfortunately cannot show you said shirt because I left it back home in New York. But it's basically this dress, but in a tank top form and orange. And I mean, I'm not saying the pattern should be plastered all over, but I think if it's used properly, it can do some fun things!
